During DT this term, we investigated Marine Vessels. Our final task was to create any Marine Vessel that would work. We first had to study them. We studied Cargo Ships, Ferry's, Speed Boats and Navy Ships.

When we got assigned this task, I knew from the beginning that I was going to do a Speed Boat. I drew some rough designs of the hull on a rough paper and used those. I'd got the idea from a picture of this beautiful Cigarette boat. Cigarette boats are like the Ferrari's of Speed Boats. At first I would have like to make it out of wood as it's easier to shape than acrylic. But we had no choice but to use acrylic. The propulsion method would have been two motors. A waterproof one under the water and one on top of the boat with a shaft going into the water with a propeller.

Investigate
In the Investigate stage my performance wasn’t very good because the rest of my group was supposed to do it and I was supposed to do the Design Stage but my group members didn’t do it because they forgot so we had to do the whole investigate stage in 20 minutes which clearly is not enough time to get a 6 in. Next time I shouldn’t rely on other people to do work, instead I should just do it and hand it in. What I found challenging was getting my group members to help and actually do some work because I was the one doing everything.
Design
In the design stage my performance, I thought was good however my marks didn’t reflect that because I never used Google sketch up, instead I got pictures which inspired my design of the boat and explained them. Next time I should do what I’m told instead of going my own way because I’ve seen how far that takes me! What I found challenging was trying to use Google sketch up. Next time I should not give up using Google sketch up.
Plan
In the plan stage, I believe that I could’ve done better because I never put determination into my work. I did it in a rush. Next time, if I plan my work accordingly, I would be able to score a higher mark than I did in this assignment. What I found difficult was to sit down, and write a plan. You may be wondering why I found that difficult…well I found it difficult because I would prefer practical work any day.
Create
I think that I didn’t get enough time to finish the create stage because we never had DT for 3 weeks in a row due to the Half Term break and a public holiday. My end product was not really finished because it wasn’t a simple boat. It had more detail than other boats. When we put it into the water it took about 10 seconds for it to sink because the front was not ready and there was no silicone left to seal the back. Next time I should come to DT for academic support more and hopefully finish on time. I found bending the acrylic tough because it was a long process and once it’s done, you can’t go back.
Attitudes in Technology
My class participation was good because I made an extra effort to participate more. I asked questions and also answered some of them. I worked well with others and respected their views and opinions. Next time we’re asked to work with acrylic I’ll find it way easier because I’ve worked with it before. I found using acrylic was tough but I’m up for a challenge any day!

The boats sucsess!
Before comming to the exam, my group and I got our boat from the DT room and tested it in the fountain. I pushed it away into the water, where I thought it belonged until it sunk right in the middle of the fountain. We had to get a stick and fetch it out! So I woulden't say our sucess was to good but our effort was good. Like they say, it's the thought that counts.
